While some opt for quiet beaches and relaxing wilderness, others choose the excitement of world festivals. The Great British Cheese Festival is one such example.

Held each September at Cardiff Castle in Wales, the Great British Cheese Festival celebrates the country’s historic cheese culture.

The festival stands out as the largest cheese market, bringing together more than 200 vendors and producers offering samples of more than 500 cheeses. The festival also offers dozens of seminars and classes conducted by master cheese makers and food historians from throughout the British Isles. At the end of the two-day event, judges bestow the coveted British Cheese awards to select participants.

In addition to the array of cheeses and educational events, visitors who purchase tickets to the festival also enjoy access to one of Wales’ most celebrated historical monuments, Cardiff Castle. Featuring ruins from Norman and Roman times, the castle stands out for its dramatic Victorian features that draws thousands of visitors each year. After you’ve had your fill of cheese, don’t forget to explore the other cultural and historical attractions around Cardiff!
